Assassin vs Manny rematch is on!
On December 19, Reymart Gaballo (24-0, 20KOs) from the Philippines, won the interim bantamweight title of the World Boxing Council, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, defeating Emmanuel Rodríguez (19-2, 12KOs), from Puerto Rico by split decision.
After a formal appeal was received by the WBC, a committee of ring officials completed a thorough analysis and review of the match, resulting in the order of free negotiations for an immediate rematch between rivals Gaballo and Rodríguez.
Undefeated Gaballo, 24 from General Santos City, won by split decision to enter the top 15 with the World Boxing Council. It was the second time he had won a version of the world title at bantamweight. In 2018, he defeated American Stephon Young on points to win the WBA interim belt, and is currently highly ranked as WBA #1; WBO #13.
WBC bantamweight champion, Nordine Oubaali (17-0, 12KOs), will defend his green and gold title in March, with the winner to fight mandatory contender Nonito Donaire (40-6, 26KOs) next.
