Editorial policy
Our standards for accuracy, sourcing and independence.
Global Boxing News reports on professional boxing worldwide. This page sets out how we source, verify and publish, and what we do when we get something wrong.
Who writes what we publish
Every article carries a byline linking to that writer's page, which lists what they cover, how long they have been covering it and everything else they have filed. Where a piece is newsroom copy rather than the work of a named reporter, it carries the Global Boxing News byline and is written by the desk.
We do not publish work produced by generative AI as reporting, and we do not publish articles under a byline belonging to someone who did not write them.
Where our information comes from
Reporting comes from four places: our own writers at ringside, at weigh-ins and in camps; direct contact with promoters, managers, sanctioning bodies and commissions; official documents including purse bid results, ratings releases and commission rulings; and other outlets, where we say clearly whose reporting it is and link to it.
We do not aggregate. A story that exists only because another outlet published it is attributed to them in the opening lines, not rewritten and passed off as ours.
Verifying a story
A fight announcement is reported once it is confirmed by a promoter, a fighter's team, or a sanctioning body, not when it is first rumoured. Where something is credible but unconfirmed we say so in the copy, and we name who is reporting it.
Records and ratings are checked against the sanctioning bodies' own published lists. Where sources disagree, which they often do, we use the official one and note the discrepancy rather than picking whichever is most convenient.
Anonymous sources
We prefer named sources and use anonymity sparingly, where a person would face real professional consequences for speaking. When we do, we say why the source is unnamed and what position they are in to know. We do not use anonymity to carry a claim we could not otherwise stand up.
Corrections
We correct openly. Factual errors are fixed as soon as we can verify the right information, and where the correction is material we add a dated note at the foot of the article saying what changed. We do not silently rewrite pieces people have already read and shared. The full policy, including how to report an error, is on our corrections page.
Independence
Global Boxing News is independently owned and funded through advertising. Advertising has no influence on what we cover or how we cover it, and no advertiser sees editorial content before publication.
We do not publish paid-for editorial. Where a piece is a promoter's own release rather than our reporting, it is filed under promoter news and labelled as supplied. Sponsored content, where it appears, carries a visible paid partnership label.
Our writers do not accept payment from promoters, managers or fighters for coverage. Travel and accreditation provided by a promoter is disclosed in the article where it is material to the reporting.
