Tony Cesay tragically dies of Motor neurone disease at 58
British boxing descends into mourning following the loss of Tony Cesay
Tony Cesay, a four-time London ABA champion for Repton ABC, tragically passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, after battling Motor neurone disease for the past few years.
Cesay was the amateur coach of three-time world title challenger Anthony Yarde, and gave up much of his time to help local, troubled kids through the discipline of boxing. He was an outstanding amateur champion and selfless boxing coach, who has left an indelible mark on boxing in London.
Former teammate and close friend Audley Harrison wrote a touching tribute to Tony, calling the boxer "one of a kind".
"Fly high Tony Cesay - love you brother - I’m so glad I got to see you and you shared the news with me in June 2024, we cried together and held each other close - you were a true friend and boxing comrade -
"I will never forget our friendship - you fought this wicked illness with courage, grit and determination- rest easy now blood
"Condolences to family and all the friends Tony made connections with - he was one of a kind."
Another outstanding amateur from London, who won multiple national titles with West Ham ABC, Matt Marsh, also shared his condolences, "RIP my friend Tony Cesay, always treasure the memories we had on the England camps."
A teammate of Matt Marsh's, Ross Minter, also made a statement, "A very good man in Tony Cesay has lost his battle with MND. He will be sorely missed by so many in the boxing world. May you rest in peace, Tony."
