Tony Yoka forces late stoppage victory against Joel Djeko to remain undefeated at heavyweight

French heavyweight Yoka secured 12th round stoppage to continue world title pursuit

Former Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka secured his tenth consecutive victory with a late stoppage over Joel Tambwe Djeko in Nantes, France to continue his undefeated record.

The French heavyweight dominated the fight after struggling in the opening round to be hugely ahead on the scorecards.

However his opponent's punch resistance wilted in the final round with the referee bringing the contest to a halt, as Yoka secured the eight stoppage of his professional career.

This victory appeared to be far from routine for the heavyweight, who managed to finally break through towards the end of the contest using his stiff jab to set up a small barrage of shots that caused Djeko to turn away and insist that no more punishment was inflicted.

Yoka insists he will need to step up in the coming years in order to maintain his course for a world title opportunity against fighters he has called out including Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in addition to a grudge rematch with Joe Joyce.

Earlier on the card, Yoka's partner Estelle Yoka-Mossely sealed a successful night for the family, with a points victory over German fighter Verena Kaise.

She, like her husband, holds ambition of competing for a world title with a scalp against Irish superstar Katie Taylor on her amateur record.
