Roy Jones Jr exclusive: No-one in America cares about an Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight

Speaking exclusively to Parimatch Slots Site, legendary four-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr says “nobody in America really cares” about a potential superfight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Assuming Fury vs Joshua is made, what do you think of it, and does America care?

"Nobody in America really cares, but I’m glad the fight is made for the British people. That’s a fight they have been deserving of for quite some time, and the British people are the best fans in boxing right now. I think Eddie won the power struggle. Why would you take two guys from there, when they’re the best fight fans in the world, and make them fight in the United States when nobody in the United States really cares?

"That’s what’s wrong with boxing today. We’re doing things just about power for the promoter. Forget about the promoter. What about the fans? The fans who deserve it? The fans who’ve been begging for this fight for the longest, why are you gonna take it away from them now?"

Could Eddie Hearn win this battle but lose the wider war with Zuffa?

"Hearn has won a battle, but he’s gonna lose the war. I just think it’s because Turki has enough money to do whatever he wants to do. Whoever has his ear is gonna win the war, because he’s got the money to keep it going. But my hat goes off to Eddie for fighting, because Eddie knows that war is not the best thing for boxing. That’s why I’m more on Eddie’s side, because I know that what they’re doing, what Zuffa’s doing, is not the best for boxing, and I know that. How? Because look at what they did with the UFC.

"I applaud Eddie for that, because he’s standing up against it. He ain’t letting them come take over how he does things, and he’s fighting for his fighters on that. I agree with him 100% on that, so I do applaud Eddie for that."

How do you think Fury–Joshua would play out?

"I’ve been wanting to see the fight for so long. The reason I’ve been wanting to see it was I wanted to see whether Joshua was able to land a big punch to knock Fury out, or if Fury’s able to be smart enough to get in his head and outbox Joshua. I don’t know how that’s gonna play out, but to win the fight, I think AJ needs to win it by knockout. Fury could also hurt Joshua early to get Joshua afraid, then Fury’s gonna be able to outbox him, get in his head, outbox him. So whoever goes out and implements their plan first is gonna win the fight. I don’t really care which one wins, because I like both of them."

How much does Joshua have left, based on his recent performances?

"Joshua has a lot left. It’s just that they’re not getting him ready physically and mentally to deal with taking punches or be defensively inclined. If you made him defensively inclined before he attacks, he wouldn’t get caught with those big punches. He’s gonna get caught because he’s not thinking defence first. He’s thinking all offence. When you start thinking all offence, you’re gonna get caught. Live by the gun, die by the gun. But when you start thinking defence first, with your offence, now you ain’t getting caught with those shots. You’re surviving. You’re living a lot longer. You’re gonna take a lot less damage, and you’re doing the damage instead of being damaged. But with Tyson Fury, SugarHill has helped him develop his punching power a little bit."
