Aggressive fighter Michael Magnesi plans on using brain not brawn to beat Ryan Garner

Italian boxer Michael “Lone Wolf” Magnesi (26-2, 13 KOs) declared that he had Ryan “The Piranha” Garner in his sights long before the matchup they will hold this Saturday, June 20, at St Mary’s Stadium, the home of Southampton FC, was ever finalised.

Both boxers dispute the WBC Interim super-featherweight title as the #1 and #2 ranked contenders.

At 31 years old, the fighter from Lazio arrives with the firm intention of ruining the dream of the undefeated Briton Garner (19-0, 10 KOs), who will fulfill his desire to fight on the pitch of his beloved club in front of more than 10,000 fans.

Magnesi, whose only two defeats have come against Japan’s Masanori Rikishi, agonisingly in the 12th and final round, and the Irish world champion Anthony Cacace, claims to have learned valuable lessons from those setbacks to improve his boxing at a distance.

“Ryan is a very good fighter. We have been working on the strategy with the team and we want to win the fight with an intelligent attitude,” Magnesi smartingly commented in an interview with BoxingScene.

Although the odds place Garner as the strong favorite, underdog Magnesi dismisses the projections and trusts that his vaster experience will silence the stadium.

With the expectation of a hostile environment in the home of the Championship club, “The Lone Wolf” affirmed that the pressure from the local crowd will only grant him more energy and motivation inside the ring: “Having the public against you gives you more energy, so I am ready. I know he is strong, but I think he will receive the first defeat of his career,” the Italian confidently declared.
