Keith Thurman set to face Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas after three year lay-off

Sebastian Fundora will defend his WBC Light Middleweight championship for the third time

It has been officially confirmed by the PBC, Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15KOs) and Keith Thurman (30-1, 22KOs) will clash in a light middleweight title bout on October 25.

The fight is scheduled to take place at the MGM grand in a main event alongside O’Shaquie Foster vs Stephen Fulton who will be fighting for the WBC super-featherweight championship as the co-main event.

Sebastian Fundora will be coming into the fight as the betting favourite, coming off a seventh-round stoppage win against former light-middleweight champion, son of boxing legend Kostya Tszyu, Tim Tszyu.

The two boxers first met in late March 2024 in a fight the Light Middleweight champion won by split decision, however, talks about a bad cut Tim Tszyu sustained early in the fight left boxing fans and pundits questioning the credibility of the towering inferno’s victory. However, since his rematch win over Tszyu in late July, Fundora has proven he is a formidable force in the division.

His opponent, Kieth ‘One Time’ Thurman is also coming off a stoppage win against Brock Jarvis after a three-year layoff following his victory over current WBC champion, Marrio Barrios. It will be interesting to see if inactivity has affected the American in terms of ring rust, however boxing trainer and father of 154-pound contender Jaron Ennis said he feels Thurman is still skillful and the layoff is beneficial to the 36-year-old.

Bozy Ennis told YSM sports media : “I don’t want people to sleep on Keith Thurman I think he still got it, even though he's up in age he still has that punching power. I think that is a 50/50 fight.”

He added: “The longer you lay off your body gets to heal much better and you get to relax your body much more. You don’t have to worry about getting up training and running, sometimes your body needs that.”

The fight will be broadcast as a pay-per-view on Amazon Prime video.
