Jarrell Miller outworks Lenier Pero in WBA heavyweight eliminator

Miller inflicts first defeat on Pero’s record after throwing over a thousand punches

Jarrell Miller decisioned Lenier Pero in WBA world heavyweight title eliminator on a Matchroom Boxing show at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on April 25.

The American won with scores of 117-111 x2 and 115-113.

According to CompuBox statistics, the American landed 290 punches from a staggering 1,003 thrown, compared to Pero’s 253 landed from 648 attempts.

The Cuban started the contest fighting at long-range then very soon got caught up in Miller’s web, just trading head-to-head.

Pero was the more accurate of the heavyweights, landing at 39 percent compared to Miller’s 29 percent, but he failed to match the volume and forward pressure the New Yorker applied throughout the 12-round contest.

Pero was WBA #2 and Miller WBA #9.

A prolific drug cheat, Miller has now won both his bouts this year, and finds himself in a position to challenge for Murat Gassiev’s WBA regular title, however, he called out Deontay Wilder after the fight.
