“I don’t see him fighting anymore” - Oleksandr Usyk’s former promoter hints at retirement

The undisputed heavyweight champion could be hanging up the gloves

Following his latest KO victory over former WBC champion Daniel Dubois to become two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, there have been questions about what’s next for the incredible Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 14KOs).

Potential fights with Joseph Parker (36-3, 24KOs), who is ranked number two in the WBO heavyweight world rankings, and Agit Kabayel (26-0, 18KOs), who is mandatory challenger for the WBC heavyweight title, have been speculated on, but it seems retirement from boxing could be the next move for the Ukrainian boxer.

In a post-fight interview after his last fight, Usyk avoided questions about who he wanted next for his undisputed title defence.

The 38-year-old told DA ZN : “Nothing. It’s enough. Next. I don’t know, I want to rest.”

Oleksandr Usyk’s previous promoter, Alexander Krassyuk, responsible for promoting the Ukrainian talent for 23 of his 24 fights, and close friend to the unbeaten champion, shared his thoughts on what was next for him.

Krassyuk told World Boxing News : “I don’t see him fighting anymore, at least not in boxing.

“He has proved it all, there is nothing more to gain.”

Amidst all the speculation, questions have been raised about Interim champions Agit Kabayel and Joseph Parker fighting against each other, however both men said they would rather fight Usyk first, naturally.

Parker told Boxing King Media : “When we fight it should be for the world title, when we fight it should mean more”.

The New Zealander added: “We need to fight for the championship of the world.”

The WBO have already ordered Usyk to defend against Parker, giving 30 days for free negotiations before being sent to purse bids. After his last victory over Daniel Dubois, Parker confronted Usyk in the ring, asking if he could be next, to which the victor replied that he needed a few months rest with his family first.
