Giorgio Isaila marches on unbeaten

Giorgio Isaila (11-0, 6 KOs) dropped stand-in opponent Reuquen Cona Facundo Arce (18-24-2, 7 KOs) in the sixth round of a points win on September 19, scored at 58-56, after climbing off the canvas himself.

In the second round of his 11th pro contest at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London, unbeaten Isaila was dropped by a flash head shot, but was quickly back to his feet, unhurt.

In the sixth and final round, the Romanian turned up the pace to pay back his Argentinian foe with a knockdown of his own.

The 25-year-old Londoner reflected on his performance, "The fight felt like a proper main event!

"I started the fight as I usually do “scanning” for openings. I’ve got caught with a good right hand over the top and had a flash knockdown, I did stand up straight away with no problems, that’s when I started to press the gas into the second gear. Later on in the round we’ve clashed heads where I ended up with a cut.

"However I started to do very well straight after. From round three to the end I completely controlled and set up the pace. He was a tough and strong opponent, so I am very happy that my previous opponent pulled out because I feel that he (Utmanzai) wouldn’t be near this level of competition.

"Strong win and strong statement made as I’ve dropped him into the last seconds of the final round to “avenge” my time when he dropped me. The crowd was crazy and I’ve kept everyone in drama, emotions, happiness and excitement! A fight I am proud to have it done!"

Trainer Matt Marsh added, "We wanted a fight to test him, and Giorgio got exactly that with this opponent last night. Giorgio showed a lot of heart, had to dig deep — and he got the decision.

"I couldn’t be more proud of him; he did bloody well last night. That 10-week camp he put in paid off. We were scheduled for an eight-rounder, but as most of you know, his first opponent pulled out at the start of the week. This lad wanted six rounds — and he gave us six good, hard rounds.

"Thank you to everyone who’s asked after him and shown your support — it’s much appreciated and it goes a long way.

"As for what’s next, Giorgio has been promised a Southern Area title shot, hopefully in December. I’m hoping that comes off because he deserves a title shot now.
