Roman defeats Payano in an elimination match

Former champion from the US Daniel Román (28-3-1, 10 KOs), defeated former champion from the Dominican Republic Juan Carlos Payano (21-4 and 9 KOs) by unanimous decision over 12 rounds, in a WBC super bantamweight eliminator, this Saturday, at the “Mohegan Sun Arena” in Uncasville, Connecticut.

After a competitive battle, Roman outscored his rival 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Southpaw Payano started brightly, picking off Román with accurate right jabs and looping left hooks. But undeterred Román upped the pace in the second half of the fight, with a searing body attack.

He also cut his opponent on the left eyebrow. Then one second before the final bell he sent Payano sprawling through through the ropes, with a big left hook, to the side of the head.
