One of the most intriguing matchups in women’s boxing may be getting closer to becoming reality.

The WBC World super-welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron revealed that discussions are underway, for a potential showdown with Claressa Shields, a fight that has generated significant excitement among fans. The possibility emerged after a series of exchanges between the two champions on social media.

Shields enters the potential matchup with an undefeated record of 19-0, including four knockouts. The American recently reclaimed the WBC Middleweight World Title with a victory over Kaye Scott on August 15, reinforcing her determination to continue building her already fabled legacy in a new division.

On the other side and on the other hand stands Cameron, who is coming off a convincing unanimous decision victory over Mikaela Mayer in Birmingham. With a professional record of 23 wins and just one loss, the British star added the WBC 154-pound title to a résumé that keeps her among the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

Cameron has also made it clear that she is willing to move up in weight to make the fight happen.

“I know she won’t come down from 160 pounds, but it’s Claressa Shields and I’m happy to accept that,” said the British heroine.
