Chantelle Cameron crowned WBC world champion after Katie Taylor vacates super-lightweight belt

Most Valuable Promotions have announced that Chantelle Cameron (21-1, 8 KOs) has been crowned the new WBC world super-lightweight champion following Katie Taylor's designation as 'Champion in Recess'.

Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian stated, "MVP is thrilled to support Chantelle as she moves forward as a two-time world champion. We are committed to delivering electrifying events that showcase her reign and the best of women's boxing."

Cameron, 34, has been calling for a trilogy decider with Taylor since their rematch in November 2023. Instead, the Irish superstar chose to fight Amanda Serrano back-to-back in 2024 and 2025 to complete their history-making trilogy.

Now 39, Taylor's only blemish on her 26-bout pro record comes from Cameron, so if she plans to have one last fight before her impending retirement, then the trilogy decider with 'Il Capo' is the only one that would make sense.

Rather than waiting for her Irish rival, Northampton's Cameron fought in three WBC Interim world super-lightweight title contests, winning all three, against Elhem Mekhaled, Patricia Berghult, and Jessica Camara.

The news comes on the same day that the WBC was informed that Alicia Baumgardner has also decided to vacate her WBC super-featherweight world title.

Baumgardner captured the Green and Gold belt in 2021 by knocking out Terri Harper and went on to successfully defend it six times. She also defeated other champions to become the undisputed of the division.

Alicia stated, “I respect the WBC and want to thank them for all the support they have given me throughout my career. Becoming their champion was a career-defining honour, and I look forward to and plan to one day fight for a WBC belt again. For now, I am focused on continuing to break barriers for women’s boxing and showing the world that we are every bit as capable as men when we step between the ropes.”
