Canelo Alvarez's ring return announced for September Riyadh season event

Turki Alalshikh has announced the ‘Mexico against the world’ card

For well over a decade, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KO’s) has been one of boxing's biggest names.

The Mexican has become almost synonymous with the sport itself, often heralded as the ‘king of pay-per-view’.

In his last outing, the ace tasted defeat at the hands of Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford (42-0, 32 KO’s), who, as a result, cemented his legacy as one of the greatest ever to grace the squared circle.

It was just Canelo’s third defeat in 68 professional fights, and a monumental loss at that, stripping him of the undisputed middleweight crown.

However, the Mexican is now looking to bounce back. The return will see him fight under his newly formed Canerlo Promotions.

Set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on September 12, he will make up one part of an incredible event roster aptly titled ‘Mexico against the world’.

Speaking at the announcement event, Saudi boxing kingpin, Turki Alalshikh, promised a monumental match-up for the 35-year-old megafight veteran.

“The 12th of September, a big, big, big fight. And this will be the first card for Canelo Promotions,” Alalshikh announced.

It will be named ‘Mexico Against the World.’ All the fighters from the team of Canelo against the world. And [Alvarez] in the main event [for] a world title, and it will be a surprise in Saudi Arabia”

It is unclear who Alvarez will find in his opposing corner, though, with the middleweight belts fragmenting following Terence Crawford's retirement from the sport , he could very well chase a return to the division's throne.

The WBC, WBO and IBF belts remain vacant, following the American's retirement, with just the WBA strap finding a new owner in Jose Armando Resendiz.
