Bill Haney extinguishes potential Conor Benn fight following Devin's victory over Brian Norman Jr.

Haney vs Benn won't happen, according to ‘The Dream’s’ trainer

Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KO's) outpointed fellow American Brian Norman Jr. (28-1, 22 KO's) in a statement win on Saturday, November 22, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The victory saw ‘The Dream’ crowned a three-weight world champion, as he outpointed Norman on all three of the judges' scorecards.

Conor Benn (24-1, 14 KO's) - who recently tasted triumph over Chris Eubank Jr. (35-4, 25 KO's) in a rematch of their April showdown - will be licking his lips, having previously revealed that Haney is on the Brit’s hitlist.

However, he may be forced to wait for an opportunity to face the new world champion, following Bill Haney's dismissal of the proposed bout.

"Conor 'When'. When is he going to get a belt? When is he going to do what Devin has done?" Haney stated.

"When is he going to do something in boxing that's on Devin Haney's level? I mean just one thing, before you start talking to us. We did the stadium in Australia [against George Kambosos], we did that for undisputed. We did Lomachenko.

"There's a lot of tremendously talented fighters that deserve a shot."

"Let's give the champ his well due respect."

Conor Benn has been extremely outspoken about his ambitions following his historic triumph earlier in the month.

However, he will certainly not be stuck in the mud, having previously announced numerous names he would like to pursue.

"I fancy Mario Barrios for the WBC world title.

"Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero, Devin Haney... all of them can get it any day of the week and twice on Sundays."

Speaking on Benn’s performance, trainer Tony Sims was ecstatic with the result over Eubank Jr.

"He boxed outstanding. He's come from a complete novice into a world-level fighter. He jumped up two weights and beat a world-class fighter.

"We want to drop back down, at 147 now and box at his natural weight and win a world title.

"That's the aim now."
