Anthony Yarde vs Lyndon Arthur- Live coverage and results of British domestic light heavyweight clash

Anthony Yarde (19-1, 18KOs) challenges Lyndon Arthur (16-0, 12KOs) for his Commonwealth light heavyweight title tonight on BT Sport 1, which also features a super bantamweight battle with the WBC International title at stake between Michael Ramabeletsa (18-17, 8KOs) and the unbeaten Southern Area champion Chris Bourke (8-0, 5KOs).

Bantamweight starlet Dennis McCann (7-0, 5KOs) takes on Pedro Matos (7-3) over eight rounds. 2016 Olympian Muhammad Ali has his second fight in the pro ranks and there is a debut for Olympic Youth gold medallist Karol Itauma.

FIGHT #5- MAIN EVENT

ANTHONY YARDE (12st 6lb 5oz) v LYNDON ARTHUR (12st 6lb 3oz)

A cagey opening between the two fighters with no punches really thrown in the opening round with neither fighter commiting in the early stages as they feel each other out with feints and movement.

Lyndon Arthur continued to feel out Yarde with his superb leading left jab, holding Yarde at arms length and a lack of head movement and early tempo from Yarde handed Arthur the early advantage in any work that was engaged in the tentative early opening stages after the end of the second.

Another quiet opening to the third round, with Yarde refusing to commit and unload as Arthur continues to pick off his opponent and keep the distance with a solid consistent left leading jab that Yarde continued to struggle to get closer and work his way around.

The first real shot of notice from Yarde was a looping right hand over the top, as he started to try and walk him down and find his range possessing a huge amount of power that had yet to be unleashed against the foccused and set up game plan of Arthur who continued to move well from the outside and pick accurate fast left shots.

Yarde continued to try and probe in the fifth, working the body to try and distract the set gameplan of Arthur away to try and land the contsantly looming big right hand that Yarde seemed to pay great attention to when trying to work his angles in any offensive shots that are thrown.

The seventh continued to be a real chess match between the two, as Arthur appeared to have a problem with his right hand as he continued to take a small control in the fight with his jab, as Yarde struggled to make any in roads and channel any aggression into getting Arthur on the back foot.

A potential injury seemed to be looking likely for Arthur who seemed ever reluctant to throw his right hand with Yarde potentially starting to sense an issue and the corner briefed him going into the nnth round.

Some neater work from Yarde in the tenth as he tries to walk through the leading jab, but still cannot find any shots of real notice except one neat combination as Arthur continues to fight off any pressure with the leading left hand which seems to be the only effective weapon from either fighter in the contest.

The scorecards seemed relatively even as Yarde started to take control of the middle rounds and the ninth proceeded in a similar pattern as Yarde continued to try and land against the one handed jab.

An explosive final round seemed to be off the cards with both fighters seeming content to try and hold what they have established on the scorecards with Yarde slightly more aggressive partly due to Arthur's seeming inability to throw his right hand. He tried to drag Arthur into more of a dogfight in the closing stages and use his short sharp power to land as much as he could towards the final bell. A short sharp right hand appeared to rock the one handed champion with Yarde refusing to follow up despite seemingly being too late in the fight.

Lyndon Arthur takes the victory and becomes commonwealth and WBO inter-continental light heavyweight champion on split decision.

FIGHT #3

CHRIS BOURKE v MICHAEL RAMABELETSA

Ramabeletsa with all his skill and talent got caught with a left hook and went down. He rose again but on unsteady legs. He fired back but kept getting caught and referee Ian John Lewis stepped in just a few seconds to go in the second round.

Bourke moves up to 10-0 and claims the vacant WBC International title.

FIGHT #4

DENNIS MCCANN v PEDRO MATOS

Matos was on the front foot, putting McCann under pressure, who was looking very confident and comfortable on the back foot. His head movement and range finding was perfect.

The Maidstone man was in full control by the third round.

McCann landed a lovely backhand 20 seconds into the fourth and began to apply the pressure. Midway through the round Matos came on strong and landed a few of his own. It's a great test for the unbeaten prospect, but he wasn't putting any weight behind his punches yet. The best punch of the round came from the Portugese puncher when he landed a looping right hand from afar.

McCann was slamming in shots from all angles in the fifth and looked to be in full control. His lateral movement and persistant jab caused all sorts of problems.

In the sixth, McCann's movement was exemplarary but he did caught a couple of times.He ended the round with a lovely one-two down the pipe.
