Jacky Calvo and Maria Soledad Vargas battle for the WBC Silver super-flyweight title in Naucalpan

This Saturday, August 29, Sala Urbana in Naucalpan will host an exciting night of Mexican boxing, with Jacky Calvo (26-10-2, 5 KOs) and Maria Soledad Vargas (20-5-1, 2 KOs) headlining for the WBC Silver super-flyweight championship.

The all-Mexican main event will be part of a card promoted by The JAB Promotions, with doors opening at 4pm local time.

In addition to the action inside the ring, the event will feature live performances by Alan Arrieta and Big Sempa, combining boxing and music for a special night for fans in Naucalpan.

For Calvo and Vargas, this opportunity represents a chance to add an international championship to their respective careers and establish themselves as leading figures in a highly competitive 115lbs super-flyweight division.

The WBC Silver Championship on the line was previously held by Italian Stephanie Silva,

30-year-old Jacqueline Calvo has been a pro since 2014 and lost her first two bouts in the paid ranks. Undeterred, she went on a 16-fight unbeaten run. Jacky also collected WBC International and WBC Silver flyweight titles. If she wins this weekend, Calvo will become a two-weight WBC Silver champion.

34 from Micohoacan, Vargas also turned pro in 2014. Her start was also chequered, with three losses in her first 10 bouts. She became the Mexican minimumweight champion in 2018 and fought for a world title under a year later in 2019, missing out on the title via a draw with Fabiana Richter.

Maria is also a WBC Silver titlist, at light-flyweight, so she will also be looking to be crowned a two-division champ.

In her last fight, she lost a challenge for the IBO World super-flyweight title in Belgium in March.

Both boxers have wins, losses and draws on their records and have each been good enough to be crowned WBC Silver champs before, so this is set to be an intriguing, close contest, with the added spice of a Mexican rivalry.
