WBC Boxing Grand Prix middleweight champion to fight for WBC Silver title

Dylan Biggs puts WBC Boxing Grand Prix reward on the line against Kenan Guzel

Dylan “The Beaudesert Storm” Biggs (18-1, 9 KOs) will return to the ring with a special opportunity: next Sunday, August 30, the Australian will face Turkey’s Kenan Guzel for the WBC Silver Middleweight Title at Ipswich Turf Club in Queensland, Australia.

The bout represents one of the major rewards earned by Biggs after winning the WBC Boxing Grand Prix at middleweight last December.

After advancing through four stages of the tournament, the audacious Australian reached the final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he faced Canadian Derek Pomerleau and earned a unanimous decision victory over eight rounds, securing the José Sulaimán Trophy and the opportunity to challenge for the Silver Title in his division.

Now, eight months after that achievement, Biggs has the thinking big opportunity to turn that accomplishment into another important step in his career.

The Australian enters the bout with a record of 18 wins, one loss and nine knockouts, along with an eight-fight winning streak.

Standing across the ring will be Kenan Guzel, an undefeated representative of Turkey who enters the fight with seven wins, five by knockout. Guzel defeated Uzbekistan’s Edem Zeyraliyev by unanimous decision.

The fight will also mark a new chapter for Biggs following the only defeat of his career. In November 2023, he suffered a technical knockout loss to Nikita Tszyu while challenging for the Australian Super Welterweight Title.

That defeat became a seminal turning point for the Australian, who subsequently moved up to middleweight and rebuilt his career before becoming the winner of the Boxing Grand Prix.

Biggs continues to work alongside his longtime trainer, Justin O’Leary, who has been by his side since he began boxing at the Beaudesert Boxing Club at the tender age of 10.

Against Guzel, Biggs will face another important test in his journey. The prize he earned in Riyadh is already secured; now he will look to make the most of that opportunity and add the WBC Silver Title to a career that gained new momentum after the Boxing Grand Prix.
