Shakan Pitters scores second-round stoppage

Shakan Pitters dropped and stopped stand-in opponent Bahadur Karami in round two of a scheduled six in Sheffield on February 7, live on DAZN.

Pitters battered the Iranian 'Freedom Fighter' Karami, first dropping him with a right hook, then using him as target practise with hooks and uppercuts until referee Michael Alexander stepped in to stop the one-sided onslaught.

The 35-year-old Brummie boxer dedicated the victory to his late father, Colin, who sadly passed away in January.

Colin Pitters was a former pro boxer, who fought world champion Richie Woodhall in 1991. Known to fans as 'Shaka Dan', it was his father who first taught his son Shakan how to box.

On top of dealing with his tragic loss, Shakan was dealt further blows on fight week when his original opponent, Daniel Dos Santos, failed a brain scan and was forced to withdraw form the headlining fight which had the European light-heavyweight title on the line.

A former British champion, Shakan could make history if the wins the blue belt as no one from his home city of Birmingham has ever held the EBU light-heavyweight title before.

His promoter, Izzy Asif, has already secured a new date of April 4 for Pitters to fight for the now-vacant European title.

Sheffield's Shakiel Thompson vs David Benitez filled the main event of the GBM Sports show at the Canon Medical Arena, the local man known as 'Dr Steel' rewarded the crowd with fourth round knockout.

There were also wins for Reece Mould, Lewis Booth and Edward Hardy.
