The London Monster - Naoya Inoue rumoured to be coming to the UK for his next fight
Naoya Inoue's (27-0, 24KO) next fight is reportedly possible for Wembley Stadium in London.
According to Japanese media, one option for Inoue is an offer from His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, which may see him fight on the planned September 20th / 21st UK Riyadh Season Card headlined by Anthony Joshua.
Inoue retained his undisputed super-bantamweight championships yesterday, May 6, in Tokyo, Japan, with a stunning sixth-round stoppage over Luis Nery.
"The Monster" found himself on the canvas for the first time in his career after he stayed in the pocket for too long and was caught with a left hook to the head in the opener. He rose to his feet and cleverly evaded everything Nery threw at him as the underdog tried to close the show.
Then, the 31-year-old four-weight world champion scored a knockdown back, in the second round, as Nery became over-aggressive and was caught with coming forward by a counter left hook on the back foot. Gradually, the Kanagawa combatant broke down the Mexican until he scored three knockdowns in total.
Now, the two-weight undisputed champion is being lured to come over to the UK in September for his next fight, which will reportedly be against Australian Sam Goodman after he was invited into the ring post-fight to challenge Naoya in person, who respectfully shook his hand.
25-year-old Goodman is unbeaten in 18 bouts and is ranked No.1 with the IBF and WBO, as well as WBC #7 and IBO #6.
Japan and Australia have a long history of a boxing rivalry, due to their proximity and also their close relations in trade and business. Goodman has worked his way into title contention, but has never fought for a world title before, which could cause a lack of excitement in this fight for boxing fans.
"The Monster" has fought in the UK before, when he took part in the World Boxing Super Series in May 2019. Inoue beat Emmanuel Rodríguez inside two rounds at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
So far, it's possible Naoya Inoue may fight against Sam Goodman in London in September, which may delight many British boxing fans, but it's all just reports thus far, with nothing confirmed just yet.
