Joey Essex reveals he's found a new name ahead of MisFits boxing debut

Trained by his uncle Tony Sims, Joey Essex is making his pro boxing debut against Numeiro on August 30 at Manchester Arena on Misfits 22 – Ring of Thrones undercard.

Ahead of his first fight, the 35-year-old reality TV star has decided to create an altar-ego to separate himself from the pugilist.

Joey Essex stated, “I'm adapting well, very well, and first of all, I wanna say it's 'Joey Don Essex'. I want people to understand the difference between the persona that people see on television to the real boxer.

“People, I feel like have got all different ways of looking at me and the way they, the way they see me and when people meet me they're like, ‘Are you really stupid? I know you're really smart, aren't you?’

“They don't really know how to take me, but with my boxing it's very separate, it's a big step for me, it's something I'm doing very different and I'm bringing out a completely different side to me.

“So yeah. Joey Don Essex is about to show everyone on the 30th of August what I'm really made of.”

The moniker makes complete sense since his full name is Joey Donald Essex.

The TOWIE star has often trained in his uncle's gym in Essex, even sparring with some of the top professional boxers that train there, but it's only recently that he has decided to enter into the squared ring to test himself.

His uncle has trained Conor Benn since his pro debut as well as world champions Anthony Joshua and Joe Cordina, as well as John Ryder, who Joey considers one of his top five boxers of all-time.
