The official press conference took place in Moscow ahead of Saturday’s IBA PRO 19 at the VTB Arena, where WBA heavyweight world champion Murat Gassiev, representing Russia, will defend his title against German boxer Peter Kadiru.

IBA PRO 19 will bring together championship boxing, leading heavyweights, and IBA Bare Knuckle bouts on a single fight card, with Gassiev vs Kadiru headlining the evening.

Speaking at the press conference, IBA President Umar Kremlev wished the global boxing community an unforgettable evening of top-tier sport.

Murat Gassiev thanked Umar Kremlev, his team, and his opponent, while highlighting the role of IBA PRO in bringing major professional boxing events back to Russia.

‘I would like to thank Umar Kremlev,’ Gassiev said. ‘Thanks to this man, I am where I am today. Thanks to him, big boxing and big fights are returning to Russia, and serious athletes are coming here.

‘I hope this is the right direction for the development of professional boxing not only in Russia, but also around the world.

German heavyweight Peter Kadiru, who stepped in after French title contender Tony Yoka withdrew from the title bout due to a back injury, said the opportunity represented the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

‘I am happy to be here and very happy to get this opportunity,’ Kadiru said. ‘This has been my dream since I was a little kid — to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world. Now I can make this dream come true. I just want to say thank you.’

Popular British heavyweight Joe Joyce, 40, returns to action against Russian top 15 contender Artem Suslenkov.

Joe Joyce said: “I’m very excited to be here. I received a warm welcome flying into Moscow and I really appreciated that and the IBA for giving me this opportunity to be here and put on a strong performance. I’m excited for Saturday night, to face Artem [Suslenkov]. He’s a strong, come-forward fighter, and I’m excited to get the win and show you what I’m all about.”
