Jake Paul set to fight 39-year-old former world champion

Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) has just announced his next fight against former world champion Julio Cesar Chávez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) on Saturday, July 28, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, live on DAZN.

This fight will serve as the co-main event on a card headlined by Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Yuniel Dorticos.

Typically with the YouTuber, his opponent is ageing at 39-years-old and has fought just once in the last three years.

By the time they fight, Chavez Jr will be nearing 40 and will have experienced just six rounds of boxing in 43 months.

Chavez Jr's pro debut was in 2003, when Jake Paul was six-years-old. The Mexican became a WBC world middleweight champion in 2011, when Paul was 14.

"The Son of a Legend" hasn't been a world champion in almost 13 years since he lost his WBC crown to Sergio Martinez in 2012. He has fought just 13 times in 13 years, including five losses. In June 2021, he lost to MMA fighter Anderson Silva, signalling just how far past his best he is.

Paul has lost once in 12 fights, to British boxer Tommy Fury in 2023, which was the only legitimate opponent he has faced so far in his professional boxing career.

'The Problem Child' has been building up his record by fighting against MMA fighters and retired boxers.

In November 2024, he fought 58-year-old Mike Tyson, who was barely able to throw a punch after the third round.
