Saul "Canelo" Alvarez defeated fellow world champ William Scull via unanimous decision in Riyadh on May 3.
The scores were 119-109, 116-112, 115-113 to the Mexican, who became a two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion with his 63rd professional victory.
The 32-year-old Cuban danced around the ring, frustrating the four-weight world champion with potshots, but was largely unambitious and not entertaining.
Alvarez spent the first rounds feeling out his opponent, as he often does, but was unable to apply any real pressure in a fight with very little action.
Scull did not do himself any favours in his big moment and will not have earned any fans after such a dull affair. How dull was it? British referee Kieran McCann told them, "Let's fight, there's too much running around."
The 34-year-old Mexican said through gritted teeth, "It was a boring fight. A fighter not trying to win and just trying to survive. I hate those kind of fighters."
The 34-year-old will now prepare for a mega-fight with two-weight undisputed pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford in September.
"He came to survive until the 12th round," Canelo complained.
The P4P punchers will meet at the 65,000 Allegiant Stadium on September 12 in what will be a legacy-making match.

Munguía gets revenge against Surace
Jaime Munguía faced Frenchman Bruno “Brunello” Surace for the second time on the Canelo vs Scull card in Saudi Arabia.
Jaime Munguía was coming off the second loss of his career. On December 14, 2024, the Mexican faced Bruno Surace in Tijuana, Mexico. At first, Munguia had the fight under control.
In the second round the Mexican sent the Frenchman to the canvas, the surprise came when after dominating all the rounds, Munguia was knocked out in the sixth round.
Five months later, Jaime got his rematch.
The fight started with the scales tipped to the French, but once Munguia found himself in the ring, he totally dominated the fight.
Having control of the ring, the Tijuana native cornered his opponent in the corners of the ring throwing some very good punching combinations. Although he failed to knock “Brunello” down, he won the bout by unanimous decision.
Jaime Munguia now holds a record of 45-2 and 35 KOs.
