Zak Chelli fumes at Queensberry and rips up his contract

WBO #6 light-heavyweight contender Zak Chelli (17-3-1, 9 KOs) too k to social media to vent his frustrations at his promotional stable, Queensberry, at being left on the shelf after his career-best win over David Morrell last May.

The 28-year-old former British champion said, "I was promised a big fight after that [David Morrell] knockout. .If any other light heavyweight did what I did, like Joshua Buatsi or Willy Hutchinson or Anthony Yarde, they'd be promoted like crazy but I wasn't. I was left under the rug.

"They [Queensberry] promised me an interim world title either against Willy Hutchinson or Joshua Buatsi or a name big like that. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to fight Callum Smith because he's with a different promotion. But [Buatsi or Hutchinson] should have been possible. I was sold a dream. They didn't promote me. They tried to sweep me under the rug.

"They said, 'Within 6 months, you'll be fighting for an interim world title.' Yesterday in a meeting, I found out it's all been lies. There is no big fight for me. There never was. My contract is now void with them. I'm a free agent."

The Fulham fighter has won Southern Area, English, British and Commonwealth titles at super-middleweight during his approaching 10-year professional career. He was the last holder of the English light-heavyweight title, too.

On the undercard of Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois, the Londoner stopped the highly-rated Cuban southpaw David Morrell Jr. (12-2, 9 KOs) in the 10th round of their May 9 fight in Manchester. Prior to that, Morrell had lasted a full 12 rounds with David Benavidez for the WBC Interim light-heavyweight title, even knocking him down in round 11.

That victory was supposed to propel Chelli on at world level, where he is currently ranked WBO #6, WBC #14, IBO #18, but instead he has been forgotten.
