Seventh successful title defence for Yamileth Mercado

New RING TELMEX-TELCEL adoptee, Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado (22-3, 5KO), had few problems in retaining her WBC world super bantamweight title for the seventh time, by defeating Peruvian Linda Laura Lecca (16-8-2, 3KO), “Triple L” to a packed house, at the Nuevo Toreo, in Tijuana, Baja California, on April 27.

The three Judges saw the fighter from Chihuahua win with identical scores: 100-90.

The 35-year-old Peruvian challenger was surpassed at all times by the champion “Yeimi”, who forced the actions during all of the 10 rounds.

She has now won five fights in a row since her 2021 unanimous decsion defeat to Amanda Serrano.

At 26 years old, Mercado has established herself as one of the best and strongest world champions in recent times.
