Who is Andrea Pesce?

Dave ‘The White Rhino’ Allen returns to the ring this Friday, August 27th at the Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield, after 18 months away from the sport when he takes on Andrea ‘Thunder’ Pesce.

Italian fighter Andrea Pesce (7-13-3, 2KOs) was born in Roma, Lazio on February 14th, 1985 and is currently 36-years-old.

He is Italy's 13th ranked Heavyweight on BoxRec, but remarkably began his boxing career as a Super-Welterweight.

He kick-started his pro career in April 2012 with a points victory over experienced Slovakian Julius Rafael, who was entering into his 53rd bout.

However, the fighter’s unbeaten run was short lived after coming up second best in three consecutive points decisions, until he was able to rectify his loss streak with another victory over fellow Italian Giuseppe Rauseo in fight number five.

Standing at 5’9’, Pesce has been fortunate to be able to move up weight classes and has fought previously as a Welterweight, Middleweight, Super-Middleweight, Cruiserweight and Heavyweight. Having first started around Super-Welterweight, Pesce often tends to try and slip past opponent's punches and move into the inside and look for the quick combinations. This usual leads to the Heavyweight dropping his hands and looking to defend with his head and upper body.

The Italian fighter has lost his last two previous fights and has only been victorious twice in his last 10 bouts, with his last win coming via knockout in 2019 - when he was able to stop Giorgi Makishvili in the second round.

The orthodox fighter has only ever fought outside of his homeland on a couple of occasions, when he first fought Milans Volkovs in a second round KO defeat in Latvia, whilst also going on to taste defeat again on his visit to Ukraine when he lost on points to Andrity Rudenko in his last fight in July.

Rudenko is the most notable fighter on Pesce's resume, after the Ukrainian has gone onto box the likes of former World Heavyweight Champions Alexander Povetkin, Lucas Browne, China’s Zhilei Zhang and ex World Heavyweight challenge Hughie Fury.
