WBC release guidelines for fights behind closed doors to start in June

With the draft of uncertainty still whistling around the wainscoting concerning fight nights, the World Boxing Council is poised to launch the Boxing Behind Closed Doors Program.

The WBC has already published a comprehensive guide, which has been meticulously created by its Medical Committee and other experts, with scouring attention to detail, but even greater emphasis on hygiene, minimizing the numbers of those involved, insuring their safety and recommending tried and tested medical procedures in order to achieve as well as guarantee it.

At the WBC's Martes a Café over the internet, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman revealed that the protocol will start in June.

It's main aim is the careful and intelligent minimization of risks, via sanitization every step of the way, so boxing can continue, albeit it in the same shape, but a different form.

This directly applies to transportation, clothing, masks  for most of the time, plus the venue itself, which could be a television studio, stadium or gym.  Also,  press conferences over the airwaves, not allowing middle aged or more mature folk, with medical conditions to be any part of the process. Even the consideration of judges scoring the screened fight at home, minus the possible distraction of any commentary.  A  hardy even harsh option, far from a crowd… madding or otherwise, yet  vitally necessary amidst the ongoing Pandemic.  And the gyms still in use, need to be daily cleaned in key areas, along with equipment in use.

Fights behind closed doors is scheduled to start in June. The cost of implementing the clean sweep, will  be part of the event itself.  Atmosphere obviously isn't going to be the same. But at least the boxers and their teams will be able to: “Earn their corn,”  while the fans will be able to enjoy their boxing, round by round, from afar.
