The WBC mourns the death of Cristian Oviedo

Following the tragic death of 21 year old boxer Cristian Oviedo (1-0) from Cordoba, Argentina, the World Boxing Council publicly paid tribute to the talented heavyweight:

The boxing family regrets with great pain the  death of young boxer Cristian Oviedo from Córdoba, Argentina, who was just 21 years old.

Cristian was an outstanding amateur fighter, who recently debuted as  professional with a victory. Without a doubt, he will be so very missed by all his friends, family, colleagues and coaches.

The Boxing Family unites in prayer alongside Cristian's  loved ones and to all our Argentine family.

Rest in peace, always  young and forever remembered champion!

Born on June 12, 1998, 'Botija' defeated fellow countryman Franco Quinteros (1-2) on points in his home city of Cordoba in central Argentina.

His father, Victor, reported the his son's passing as a suicide.
