‘King’ Callum Walsh is 'ready to go to the next level’

Callum Walsh (14-0, 11 KO’s) is one of the biggest young names in boxing. The Cork star has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks, only turning professional in 2021, but has since racked up an impressive 14-fight unbeaten record. 

The 24-year-old – who is currently a ranked contender with the IBF, WBC, and WBO at super welterweight – is preparing to step onto the biggest stage of his career, taking on the undefeated  Fernando Vargas Jr. (17-0, 15 KO’s), as part of the Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez undercard.

The event is backed by UFC president Dana White, with the action streamed live on Netflix, and the main undercard to begin at 8:00 pm ET 

The Dana White backed fighter has revealed that he feels this is the perfect opportunity for him to announce himself to the boxing world.

“I definitely have a lot more UFC fans than boxing fans right now, but this fight will change everything,” Walsh told The Ring.

“It will show the boxing fans that I am a legitimate fighter and a world-level boxer who’s ready to go to the next level.”

Walsh feels that he is a far more polished fighter than his counterpart, thanks to his already extensive ring experience.

“I’ve been boxing since I was six years old and was a six-time Irish champion and European gold medalist,” Walsh explained. “I came on the scene recently, but I’ve been working for this my whole life. It feels great that it’s finally paying off on a worldwide stage.”

“I think I have a lot more skills, experience, and power,” he said. “I’ve fought better competition than he has, and overall I am a better fighter.”

The UFC-backed boxer was a distinguished amateur fighter with 120 fights prior to lacing up as a pro.

A win on Saturday night would likely put him within touching distance of his first chance at a world title and set him firmly amongst the elites of the division.
