Tim Tszyu makes huge move in Australian boxing by dominating Jeff Horn

Jeff Horn was on the back foot from the first bell and was dominated throughout by a scintillating Tim Tszyu display

Tim Tszyu announced himself in the Australian Boxing world with a dominant victory over Jeff Horn, staking his claim to the helm of the Australian boxing throne and continuing his unbeaten streak to sixteen fights on Wednesday night.

An event with a number of noisy spectators in the Queensland Country Bank Stadium Townsville, Tszyu managed to counter Horn's awkward and physical style with precision and accuracy, countering well and controlling the whole fight. The 25-year-old Australian super welterweight sealed the victory in the 8th round, with 'The Hornet' unable to make the starting bell for Round 9 after taking heavy damage throughout the fight.

The fight began with a rousing atmosphere, with the first two rounds showing confidence and agression from both fighters trying to assert themselves into the fight, which is exactly what Tszyu did during round 3, with two heavy shots forcing slips from Horn, then finally a complete knockdown later on in the round signalling the start of an onslaught from the young Australian.

Tszyu continued to dominate throughout, using the crowd as a weapon to thrive from, lading the cleaner of the shots during the middle round, and managed to continue to come up stronger with Horn unable to land any ombinations or get into his traditionally awkward rhythm.

Then in Round 8, Tszyu came out all guns blazing landing some heavy body shots late on in the round,pumelling Horn and giving him no room to manoeuvre any counter, and taking the wind completely out of his sails. This left the man who once defeated Pacquiao, unable to enter the ring for the final round, with the fight called off handing Tszyu another superb victory and shrouding doubt over the future of 'The Hornet.

Tszyu’s WBO Global and Australian IBF super welterweight successful title defence, creates an open path for the shot at becoming world champion in the near future, with rumours of a series of bouts in Russia also circling.

He said after the fight:" I just want to let everyone know my name’s Tim, not the son [of Kostya],” he said in the ring after his huge win. “But all respect to Jeff ... it’s an honour to sell out a stadium like this with another Australian, but this is a young man’s sport and I was better.”

Horn was left reeling after the fight, looking visibly upset and uncertain of his future in the sport, but remained coy about revealing whether he would fight again and at what level after the bout.

He said:" “Tim was young, hungry he’s an absolute champion and I can’t put anything past him,” he said. “He’s an absolute legend and now he is the No1 in Australia; he wasn’t before but he’s certainly earned it now.”
