Who is Johnny Fisher?

Johnny Fisher (14-1, 12 KOs) makes his Zuffa Boxing debut on September 26 at the Copper Box Arena in London, live on Sky Sports.

The Essex boy has a huge following in his local area and is well known all over the UK. With the new promotional powerhouse behind him and talks of fighting Deontay Wilder soon, is he about to become an international star?

Johnny George Charles Fisher was born on 27th February 1999 in Harold Wood to parents John and Charlotte Fisher, and has lived in Romford all his life.

Johnny has two brothers - William and Henry - and one sister - Hetti.

In sixth form, he played rugby for Marshalls Park School in Romford. He later joined his university's rugby team.

He only experienced 10 amateur bouts in total, winning three by first-round stoppage. He sold out the student union in his amateur debut and won by first-round knockout.

Both his father and grandfather boxed before him. His dad, John, boxed as an amateur. His siblings also boxed.

His father is a butcher, and during Covid Johnny would help to sell meat from his dad's van at all hours of the day and night.

He stopped boxing to focus on his rugby, until he resumed training in his second year at uni and sparred Joe Joyce for his 2020 fight with Daniel Dubois. They flew young Johnny out to Las Vegas when he should have been working on his final dissertation for uni.

Joe Joyce's manager, Sam Jones, advised him to turn pro after watching him spar, so he did, then signed with Matchroom Boxing, who are based nearby in Essex. When promoter Eddie Hearn was told of Johnny Fisher boxing out of Romford and lived just 15 minutes away, he signed him without even seeing him.

He graduated from the University of Exeter with a 2:1 degree in History. His final dissertation was on the aerial bombing of Germany in 1944-45.

Trained by Mark Tibbs in the Origin Gym in Rainham, he made his pro debut in February 2021 against Matt Gordon, winning with 31 seconds to go in the first round.

His first four fights, during 2021, were fought behind closed doors due to the pandemic. He won all four by knockout.

For his first fight in front of crowds, he sold 3,000 tickets to the Ally Pally (Alexandra Palace) in London.

He won his first professional title - the Southern Area heavyweight championship - in his 10th fight in August 2023, with a seventh round stoppage of Henry Armstrong.

In July 2024, he scored his quickest KO of his career, when he stopped "The Savage" Alen Babic in 36 seconds.

He won a second belt in December 2024 in Saudi Arabia when he defeated friend and sparring partner Dave Allen via split decision to claim the vacant WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title. However, following a fifth-round knockdown to Fisher, most spectators believed Allen was robbed of a win.

The pair became friends after they sparred in 2019, which Fisher admits to getting a "bit of a belting", but the 19-year-old just kept coming. After that one particular spar, he knew he had what it takes to turn pro.

He has lost just once in his pro career, to the aforementioned Dave Allen, in May 2025 via fifth-round stoppage. Fisher jumped straight into the rematch five months later, believing he had many improvements he could make, instead he was dropped by Allen in the fifth round again! This time, he couldn't survive the scare and was stopped.

Despite being managed by Matchroom for over five years, Fisher allowed his contract to expire so he could sign with rival promotions, Zuffa Boxing, run by American Dana White. Johnny received a renewal offer from Eddie Hearn, but said that Zuffa's deal was worth six to eight times more. The actual figure is not known, but it's been referred to as "life-changing money that can pay for a mortgage."

He know trains with Tony Sims at the Matchroom Gym in Essex.

He counts Rocky Marciano and Lennox Lewis among his boxing heroes.

His dad, "Big John", has become a social media celebrity, with his catchphrase, "Bosh". It all begun when his brother filmed his dad moaning about their mum's burnt cooking, which went viral, as did the clips of him coming him with a hundred pound's worth of Chinese takeaways. Both John and Johnny have 320k following on TikTok.
