Shakur Stevenson urges Terence Crawford to hang up gloves

Should 'Bud' call it quits?

Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford (42-0, 31 KO’s) cemented his name amongst the greats with a spectacular display of boxing mastery against fellow legend Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KO’s).

The fight wasn't a completely one-sided affair, with Canelo finding plenty of his own success.  

But Crawford's defensive expertise and crisp counters ultimately proved too much for the front-footed former Middleweight champion, with the multiple division veteran unable to trap and bully his opponent like he has become accustomed to.

However, Crawford is not getting any younger, and at 37 years of age, many are wondering if his time at the top is growing short.

Friend and fellow fighter, Shakur Stevenson, recently revealed that he feels ‘Bud’ should seriously consider hanging up his gloves.

“I don't want to see him fight anymore, in my opinion,” He revealed to Ariel Helwani. 

"It's just a lot, the training camps and wear and tear on your body. Me being his brother, I really have endless love for this guy. I don't want to see it.

"I think he did everything in the sport that he could do, I think there is nothing else that could be done.

"He made one of the best fighters of our generation look average. I think that is a huge accomplishment, and I think it's time to retire on a high horse.”

Pressed by Helwani on whether he believes Crawford will heed his advice and call it quits, Stevenson couldn't say, but did acknowledge that at present, ‘Bud’ will likely continue.

“No, but it's hard to say, Bud is crazy. I already know what he can do in the boxing ring is different and in his training camps the hard work that he puts in comes together on fight night.

"He can go and do different things, he doesn't have to retire. But for me, I want to see it.”
