Ricardo Sandoval vs Oscar Collazo postponed after injury setback

The highly anticipated fight between Ricardo Rafael Sandoval (27-2, 18 KOs) and Oscar Collazo (15-0, 12 KOs), scheduled for October 10, at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois. will not take place as planned, after the undefeated Puerto Rican contender suffered an injury during training.

Sandoval was set to defend his WBC Flyweight World Championship against challenger Collazo, who was moving up to 112 pounds in pursuit of another world title. However, Golden Boy Promotions have now announced that Puerto Rico's “El Pupilo” unfortunately sustained a rib injury during training camp, forcing him to withdraw from the bout.

“This is a fight I deeply wanted,” 29-year-old Collazo said, explaining that he had pushed hard for the matchup because he wanted to embrace the challenge and understood how much interest it had generated among boxing fans.

The Puerto Rican southpaw also apologised to his American opponent Ricardo Sandoval and his team, acknowledging the hard work and sacrifices they must have made throughout camp. He also expressed hope that both sides will be able to agree on a new date for the fight.

“This is only a change of date, not the end of the road,” Collazo said, reaffirming that his goal and aim of facing the champion remains unchanged.

Ricardo “El Niño” Sandoval enters this fight at the peak of his prime. The Mexican warrior reached the summit last July after traveling to Japan and dethroning Kenshiro Teraji on his home turf.

Coming in as the favourite thanks to his natural height, reach, and power advantages at 112 pounds, Sandoval aims to prove he remains the man to beat in the division.

It won’t be an easy night, however, as standing in his way is Óscar “El Pupilo” Collazo. The Boricua star, a world champion at 105 pounds, is making a daring jump up two weight classes to etch his name into the history books of Caribbean boxing.

Collazo relies on his speed, refined technique, and sharp precision to offset Sandoval’s physical strength in what promises to be an action-packed tactical battle full of explosive combinations.
