Russian Pavel Silyagin (7-0, 4KOs) won the WBC Silver middleweight title defeating Uzbekistan's Azizbek Abdugofurov (13-1, 5KOs) by unanimous decision in an entertaining bout on Saturday, March 20, in the co-feature of the Top Rank Boxing card headlined by Artur Beterbiev vs. Adam Deines at Megasport Arena in Moscow.
Lanky Silyagin ably used his longer reach at 6'1" and deftly switched between right-handed and southpaw stances, delivering punches from all angles against a slower Abdugofurov, 29 from Kuala Lumpur.
It was a tough fight and each bloodied the other's noses, but it was the 27-year-old Russian who effectively applied the more intelligently sustained pressure to releive the champion of his belt
The judges had it 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109 for the dominant Silyagin, who is known as “The Stylish Assassin.”
