Pablo Miguel Carrillo Rodriguez (27-8-2, 17KO) became the new champion of the WBC’s Continental Americas super flyweight title, defeating Rober Barrera (24-5, 14KO) by split decision at the Elías Chegwin Coliseum in Colombia.

'El Trencito' Carrillo, who spared no effort to hand his Colombian rival a fifth professional defeat, starred in one of the best bouts of the evening against Barrera.

33-year-old Pablo ended up closing the decision victory with a surge to secure his 27th win from 37 bouts.

“Thanks to all the fans who support me and to you for being present,“ he said. “I promised my dad that I was going to give him this belt and here it is. We have fought and all things were given to us thanks to God.”

Colombian Carrillo had fought for the same honours in his last fight in April with Dewayne Beamon, but an accidental headbutt in the fifth round caused the fight to end early in a technical draw, so the belt remained vacant.
