The “Bomber” is rising! Owen Corrigan breaks into the top 15
Unbeaten Owen “Bomber” Corrigan (6-0, 3 KOs) has officially broken into the Australian Top 15 light-heavyweight rankings and now has his sights firmly set on the next chapter of his career.
Owen is now ranked #14 in the Australian light-heavyweight rankings, where the No.1 on the list is Ben Whittaker's next opponent, Conor Wallace, who is IBF #2 and meets the Briton in a final eliminator in October.
The undefeated Australasian light-heavyweight champion, Corrigan, returns to action on August 28, when Dragon Fire Boxing brings the 55th edition of the iconic Thunderdome series back to Metro City Arena in Perth, Western Australia.
Ireland's Corrigan was originally scheduled to face Cole Smith, but after multiple fighters suffered injuries in the lead-up, a replacement opponent is expected to be announced shortly.
For the man nicknamed “Bomber,” the disruption hasn't affected his preparation.
“TRAINING HAS BEEN BRILLIANT”
Trained by Daniel Rogers at Ringfit, Corrigan says his latest camp has continued to build on the momentum of his previous preparation.
“Yeah, training's been brilliant. Picked up where we left off last camp. Had a nice break before starting camp, so went in nice and fresh, reaching new heights again and getting comfortable being in there with talented fighters.”
That confidence comes at an important point in Corrigan's career, who is originally from Wicklow in Ireland and now resides in Perth.
Breaking into the Australian Top 15 puts the undefeated champion among a highly competitive light heavyweight division — but Corrigan isn't satisfied with simply earning a ranking.
“THERE ARE BIGGER MILESTONES TO ACHIEVE”
“Yeah, delighted to be in the Top 15 amongst a strong division. There’s no weak points in there. I do feel we have bigger milestones to achieve soon!”
The message is clear: Corrigan sees the ranking as another step, not the destination.
And despite the late change of opponent, there will be no trash talk from the champion.
“No trash talk to be given to my opponent. He saved the bacon by jumping in last minute. However, I do have a job to do, so respect to be shown after the fight.”
“MY FANS ARE MY ARMY”
While Corrigan's focus is on what happens inside the ring, he hasn't forgotten the people who have helped him reach this point.
“Message to the fans, I love them all and appreciate all the sacrifices they make to make my fights. You need an army to go to war and they are my army!”
With an undefeated record, the Australasian title around his waist and a new Australian Top 15 ranking, Owen “Bomber” Corrigan enters August 28 with momentum firmly on his side.
Now the question is simple:
Can the Bomber turn his Top 15 ranking into another statement victory at Thunderdome 55?
One thing is certain — Owen Corrigan is coming for bigger milestones.
