Oscar Valdez moves up to super-featherweight

Oscar Valdez (26-0) had decided to vacate his WBO featherweight world title to make his way up to the super-featherweight division, where he aims  to take on WBC titleholder, Miguel 'Alacrán' Berchelt (36-1).

Valdez said: “I was already having a hard time marking 126 pounds, so climbing to 130 pounds will make me feel very good, without losing power. I want the best super feathers in the world. I want to fight WBC champion Miguel Berchelt.”

With a 26-0 record, with 20 knockouts, Valdez was crowned in July 2016 against Matias Rueda and then made six successful defenses, ruining the records of four of those previously unbeaten opponents along the way.

He ambitiously commented that he plans to conquer the super-featherweight division next and later the lightweight division to become a three-weight world champion.

The titlist he is eyeing, Berchelt, won the green and gold belt in January 2017 and has since made five successful defenses and has a staggering KO count of 32 stoppages from 36 victories. The 27-year-old Mexican's sole career defeat was back in March 2014 when he was stopped in the first round against Luis Eduardo Florez.
