WBC plan to give Moses Itauma a clear path to the top

Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KO’s) has fast-tracked himself to the upper echelons of the heavyweight division.

The 20-year-old's destructive power and slick ringcraft have made him a feared opponent among his heavyweight adversaries.

So much so that he was forced to postpone his ring return after having trouble finding an opponent for a proposed December bout.

Instead, the youngster will now return on January 24, against heavyweight veteran Jermaine Franklin

Fans are hoping that Franklin may finally be the man to give Itauma some much-needed rounds, with none of his past opponents having yet been able to trouble the Brit whatsoever.

A 14th win for Itauma would see him rise to near the top of the heavyweight rankings and edge even closer to what now seems like an inevitable title showdown.

It has now been revealed that a title opportunity may come sooner than we first thought, with the WBC set to order a title elimination bout between Itauma and a British heavyweight rival.

Itauma vs Okolie

According to the WBC, they are currently working on a deal that would see Moses Itauma and Lawrence Okolie (22-1, 16 KO's) face off in a final elimination bout for a shot at Oleksandr Usyk’s WBC strap.

Lawrence Okolie is currently ranked as the WBC’s number one contender, sitting just behind Agit Kabayel, who occupies the top spot.

However, even if the fight were to materialise, there's no guarantee the winner would clash with Usyk, who is continuing to keep his future fight plans well under wraps.

Instead, the winner would likely see themself pitted against Kabayel, who has yet to be offered a showdown with the Ukrainian champion.
