Mikey Garcia believes he is the next opponent of Manny Pacquiao despite Conor McGregor links

Mikey Garcia believes Conor Mcgregor will not get his fight with Manny Pacquiao and believes a fight with him would be next year

Four division world champion Mikey Garcia believes that he will be next to face the all-time great Filipino Manny Pacquiao, not UFC star Conor Mcgregor and has insisted that the contest will take place next year long before any potential 'entertainment' meeting with McGregor.

Garcia is currently reigning in the 147 division, and joins a long list of names that have been thrown in the ring to face Pacquiao includng Errol Spence Jr., Shawn Porter and Terence Crawford.

McGregor however recently tweeted his plans to fight Manny Pacquiao in the boxing ring, with Pacquiao reportedly planning to use some of the proceeds raised to help fund the Covid-19 crisis in his own country.

However, The American has placed himself at the front of the queue to face the 41-year-old and has highlighted the lak of response from Pacquiao as a factor in his reasoning behind being his next opponent.

He told Fight Hype: “I saw the tweets from McGregor, but I haven’t seen any from Pacquiao. Are there any responses from Pacquiao yet? I haven’t seen any. Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is not Conor McGregor. Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is with me. So McGregor has to take a number. McGregor’s next fight might be against Manny Pacquiao, but before that, Manny Pacquiao has to fight me first, and that’s 100 percent.

“How did they do Mayweather-McGregor? It’s entertainment, and it’s business, so why not?” he said. “I’ll watch it. It’s entertainment. Why do people watch WWE? It’s entertainment. Why do people watch the really bad fights out there? It’s entertainment. Manny Pacquiao’s next fight is with me. That’s going to happen, watch. It won’t be this year. It’ll be next year.”

It looks likely that Pacquiao may face both Mcgregor and Garcia as his next two moves in his star-studded professional career but it remains to be seen whether the fight deals will be completed in time for the end of the year with the effects of the global pandemic still looming.
