Louis Greene ready for first fight back in 20 months

Louis 'The Medway Mauler' Greene (17-4, 11 KOs) is all set for his ring return on November 29 at York Hall, in what will be his first fight in over a year-and-a-half.

The former Commonwealth super-welterweight titleholder was last seen causing an upset in Saudi Arabia when he stopped Frank Warren's unbeaten prospect Jack McGann in under 90 seconds on the Zhilei Zhang vs Joseph Parker undercard on March 8, 2024.

The Kent puncher will break his 20-month hiatus on the Goodwin Sports card which features former Southern Area super-lightweight champion Mikey Sakyi; Kaylem Foreman; Logan Carter; Tyrone King; and Alfie Shrubb.

Medway's Greene will fight against an opponent yet to be confirmed, but inevitably after so long out, it will most likely be against a journeyman, designed for Louis to shake off the ring and to get some rounds under his belt.

33-years-old from Strood, Greene was scheduled for a Commonwealth title rematch against Sam Gilley at York Hall on 18 October 2024, but was forced to withdraw due to illness. The fight was rescheduled to take place at Portman Road in Ipswich on 7 June 2025, with the vacant British super-welterweight crown also on the line. However, Greene withdrew for a second time after a contract dispute.

Greene became a Southern Area welterweight champion in his eighth bout, which he defended once via second round KO. His first defeat came from Larry Ekundayo in his 10th fight in 2018; then he fell to Lewis Crocker in seven rounds in 2020.

Louis challenged for the English welterweight title in 2022, but was widely outpointed by Harry Scarff.

Greene's career-best win came in November 2022 when he defeated Dean Sutherland to become crowned Commonwealth super-welterweight champion, a title he defended against Paul Kean vis sixth-round TKO in May 2023. His second defence, five months later, ended in defeat to Sam Gilley over 12 hard-fought rounds.

His last fight ended in the quick KO in Riyadh against Jack McGann, but he has unfortunately been unable to build on that momentum due to injuries and contract disputes.
