Former world champion boxer Liam Smith has been charged with GBH with Intent following an attack on a concierge. 

Smith, 38, was arrested after the worker was left with serious facial injuries at The Blade in Deansgate, on Silvercroft Street, Greater Manchester.

The successful boxer, who held the WBO super welterweight title from 2015 to 2016, is said to have attacked the man on September 13.

His alleged victim was taken to hospital for surgery after suffering several fractures during the attack.

The 38-year-old "Beefy" from Liverpool appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court on September 14 charged with causing GBH with intent, and was released on bail.

Smith, from Liverpool, is next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on October 19, where he will be asked to enter a plea.

He had been due to make a comeback against Ilaru Kujala in Finland on September 4, but withdrew from the fight a few days before after suffering a calf injury.

He recently he fought British rival Chris Eubank Jr in two memorable bouts, defeating the Brighton man in the first fight in January 2023 before suffering a defeat in the rematch eight months later.

His most recent fight was in April 2025 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium where he lost a wide points decision to Aaron McKenna.
