WBC officially declares the super-flyweight title vacant as Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodríguez challenges at bantamweight

Following the official announcement of undefeated American boxer Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodríguez moving up in weight, the World Boxing Council formally declares the organization’s world super flyweight championship vacant.

The WBC expressed its most sincere gratitude to Rodríguez for being a dignified and proud ambassador of the Green and Gold colors, wishing him the absolute best of success in his career.

Jesse Rodríguez (23-0, 16 KOs) has built one of the most meteoric and spectacular careers in modern boxing, consistently backed by Teiken Promotions. Interestingly, the story of this ring phenomenon began in Mexico City, where he made his professional debut on March 10, 2017, defeating Mauricio Cruz via unanimous decision at the Carpa Astros in Tlalpan.

His journey to WBC world glory erupted on February 5, 2022, in Phoenix, Arizona, when at just 22 years old, he defeated the experienced Carlos Cuadras by unanimous decision to capture the WBC world super flyweight championship. Far from complacent, ‘Bam’ solidified his elite status by successfully defending that crown against top-tier contenders and legends, including Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Israel González.

After a successful run in the flyweight division where he captured the WBO title, Rodríguez returned to 115 pounds to headline a clash of titans against Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada, whom he dethroned to recapture the WBC world super flyweight title. After completing three successful defenses of his reign, Rodríguez leaves the division through the front door to take on new challenges.

Rodríguez is now looking to kick off a new era. His next step will take place this coming June 13th in Glendale, Arizona, where he will step into the ring to challenge Antonio Vargas for the WBA bantamweight title.
