Thunder causes Big Bang in Dublin

Road Warrior Mark Chamberlain stepped into the lion's den in Dublin, Ireland on August 1st, and came out as a Fight of the Year contender when he knocked out defending champion Pierce O'Leary in the 10th round to claim the IBO World Super Lightweight title.

"Thunder" Chamberlain climbed off the canvas in the seventh stanza from a body shot to stop "Big Bang" O'Leary, who went down O'Leary down in rounds two, three, and 10, in front of his sold-out home crowd.

Sweet as 'Sugar'

Undefeated "Sugar Boy Roy" Royston Barney-Smith won the IBO Super Featherweight Final Eliminator title with a unanimous decision over Reece Bellotti in Dublin. He immediately called out IBO World Super Featherweight champion Jono Carroll.

South African boxing history

It was a hero's welcome home in South Africa for IBO World Super Featherweight champion Bernice Ferreira who beat fellow champion Caroline Veyre earlier this month in Atlanta, Georgia to become a Unified World Champion.

With the victory, Ferreira became the first Unified female World Champion in South Africa's history.

Next weekend at Croke Park, The Pride of Ireland, Katie Taylor, one of the pioneers of women's boxing laces the gloves up for the final time. Standing across the ring will be IBO World Super Lightweight champion Flora Pili, undefeated and determined to write her own chapter in history.
