“Zurdo” Rámirez KOs “Tiger” López

Former WBO super-middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez (41-0, 27KOs) defeated Texan Alfonso López (32-4, 25KOs) by knockout in the 10th round this Friday at the Galveston Island Convention Center in Galveston, Texas, to win the NABF light-heavyweight title.

After 20 months of inactivity, 29-year-old Mexican Ramírez came back dominant, sending defending champion López to the canvas in the second and 10th rounds. A big right from the tall Mexican southpaw hit the button and finished the fight with two rounds left to go. Between the boxers, they shared 51 knockouts between them, so the firworks were promised from the start.

It was the second fight up at light-heavyweight for Ramirez, who improved his record to 41 bouts with 27 knockouts… and still no defeats.

With this triumph “Zurdo” was crowned NABF light heavyweight champion endorsed by the WBC.

He joins the company of champions Dmitry Bivol (WBA) and Artur Beterviev (WBC, IBF), and will have a keen eye on the forthcoming fight for the vacant WBO World light-heavyweight title between Joe Smith Jr and Maxim Vlasov in February.
