Gervonta Davis branded 'duck' by former opponent

Jake Paul (12-1, 7KOs) is preparing to take on Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) in a mammoth exhibition bout on November 14.

However, for Davis, the fight looks like a peculiar decision given the glistening career he is putting on hold to pursue the attention-grabbing Netflix event.

‘Tank’ has long been a fan favourite amongst boxing fans, with the American captivating enthusiasts around the globe due to his relentless style and defensive prowess.

Perhaps the biggest blemish on ‘ record comes via his March draw versus fellow countryman Lamont Roach.

The decision was controversial, with a majority of fans feeling that Lamont Roach had done enough to come away with a victory.

Reacting to the recent news, Roach has not taken kindly to the recent move by Davis, suggesting that he is trying to avoid putting pen to paper for a rematch.

Taking to social media, Roach posted ‘Told ya so’, followed by three duck emojis. Suggesting that, Gervonta Davis has no interest in erasing the only mark on his shimmering résumé.

Critics quick to slam the exhibition

Roach has not been the only person to slam the recent mega fight announcement. A host of boxing’s biggest personalities have also been quick to brand the proposed clash a joke.

One of boxing's more controversial figures, ‘King’ Ryan Garcia, revealed on social media that he believes these kinds of events continue to tarnish the reputation of his sport.

"This just proves that the new blueprint is get popular be a decent fighter, "He continued." Pick fights to win that gives you advantage and continue to rack in money. Integrity of the sport is getting ruined everyday. If you are a up and coming fighter I’d just focused on strictly building."

Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn had a more measured response to the proposal - following rumours that Matchroom’s own Anthony Joshua was next in line to take on the YouTuber turned Boxer.

“I think on one side you have to understand the business of it,” He told FightHype.

I hate these exhibitions. I hate these 14-oz gloves. I don’t know what it’s going to be. You’ve now got Jake, who’s a 210 to 220 pounder, fighting a 135-pounder. Bit weird.

“But at the same time, I can’t be a hypocrite and say if you’re Gervonta Davis and you’re being offered 20, 30, 40 million, whatever the number is, and you’re getting seven or eight to fight Lamont Roach in a 50/50, what are you going to do?
