Eddie Hearn on whether we could see Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury in 2025

Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn , answered questions on whether Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury will finally get made in 2025.

He told BetFred , “It’s not something that we’ve talked through yet. We’re only a couple weeks on from Tyson Fury’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, so I doubt he’s really in the mood to talk about the next one just yet.

“If he does want to continue fighting, which I presume he does, then it’s an obvious fight to make. It’s the biggest fight in the sport still and you get people telling you that it isn’t, but tell me a bigger fight? There isn’t one.

“Anthony would want another shot at Daniel Dubois to win that IBF heavyweight title, but he’s fighting Joseph Parker, so I think now’s the time to get the Joshua versus Fury fight made. We will give Tyson his time to rest and recover and if it’s something he’s interested in, then we’d love to make it happen.”

45-year-old Hearn then explained exactly why Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury hasn’t happened already, “A number of reasons. The time it was going to happen, which was the time we signed for the fight, was when Tyson had his arbitration with Deontay Wilder for the rematch. We signed to fight Tyson Fury and I believe Tyson was going to fight Anthony Joshua, but through the court ruling, he had to fight Wilder. That was taken out of our hands.

“Timing’s everything and I still believe both fighters are close to the prime of their careers. I know Tyson got beat, but he got beat by Usyk in a close fight. There’s no shame in that and he’s still a great fighter. AJ’s still a brilliant heavyweight, so I think it’s a tremendous clash and right now, it’s very difficult to pick a winner in that fight, which is of course enthralling for boxing fans.”

Anthony Joshua has made his intentions clear for a long time, that he plans on becoming a three-time world champion, however, the opportunity may not present itself for a while yet, Hearn revealed, “I know AJ would love a crack, but I think it’s difficult to go into a third fight with Usyk. Coming off the Dubois defeat, then I believe it will have to be the rematch with Daniel. Daniel has to beat Joseph Parker first, which I don’t think is a given at all, so we just need to see what happens on February 22nd.

“AJ would love another crack at the World Heavyweight Championship, but that might be out of his hands, so let’s see what happens with Tyson Fury.”
