Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley 'Run it Back' but who wins the rematch?

GBN have asked their panel of experts who they are picking to win this weekend's highly-anticipated rematch between British heavyweight rivals Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley on Saturday, October 17, live on DAZN PPV.

Richard Riakporhe: “I’m leaning to Fabio, I’m leaning to him because I think he can adjust. Not in the fight the way Dubois does; I think he needs to go away and really reflect on it. All he needs to do is listen to the coach Ben Davison; they have a good game plan to beat this guy.

“I saw what they did when he landed the first right hand; [Wardley] pulled his hand down, that Wilder-type movement, bam, he put him down. If he comes with a good strategy like this and he trains well, I think he can do it. Not by a big margin, maybe 60%.”

Derek Chisora: “I think that this fight, the rematch, will end earlier than before. I love Fabio, to come from white collar boxing to come in the game and become heavyweight champion [is amazing], but he didn’t win it, to be honest – he got it passed down.

“When he boxed a fighter who was on game, he lost. I love Fabio but I don’t see him troubling Daniel right now, again.

“He has to completely change something in his game to trouble Daniel. If he doesn’t change anything, he is not going to trouble Daniel.”

Carl Froch: “When I look at Fabio Wardley, he took a lot of damage in that [first] fight, and Daniel Dubois actually finished strong, stood proud and was full of energy.

“In the rematch, I just think Daniel Dubois’ got an extra 10% over Wardley, and I think that’ll be enough.

“So Fabio Wardley, unfortunately, I don’t think will get this job done and he’ll probably get stopped again. Daniel Dubois’ going to be coming into this fight really confident.”

Jonathan Nagioff, Pro Boxing Fans: "Having absorbed Wardley’s best shots and overwhelmed him late on, Dubois will be confident of a repeat victory. I expect him to get the job done quicker this time and stop Wardley around the halfway mark."

Tim Rickson, GBN Editor: "Rematches quite often go the same way as the first fight.

"Wardley's punches are so swift they can take an opponent off their feet in an instant, whereas Dubois' clubbing shots take time to wear down their victims. So this could end in an early win for Wardley or a later win for Dubois, which was my same expectations for the first fight.

"Wardley swiped Dubois off his feet in the opening 10 seconds, then landed another big right hand in the third, which Dubois tactically took a knee from, clearly learning from his many accumulated knockdowns during his career.

"But then he did something he had never done before, he came back stronger from those knockdowns. Yes, he was dropped three times in the first round by cruiserweight Kevin Lerena in 2022 then came back to win in the third, but that was down to a knee injury, so I see it differently.

"Dubois finally shed his 'quitter' label and came back to batter Wardley, who really should've been pulled out way before the 11th. He took far too much punishment and was completely sapped of all his strength from as early as the sixth round. He was still firing back though, and had moments of success, but Dubois had worked him out, ironed out the kinks, and just pounded away until the ref had to stop the onslaught.

"This is why I believe Dubois wins by KO again in the second half of the contest. He has his number, knows exactly what to do, and will get the job done again, perhaps quicker in rounds 7-9. Wardley has that equaliser and killer instinct. If he wins, it will likely be early in rounds 1-3. If he scores any early knockdowns again, he will certainly be jumping on his success to kill the fight off this time. But as the fight wears on, Wardley is susceptible to cuts and is too brave for his own good. If the fight goes the same way as the first, then I can see him being stopped earlier."
