Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia appear to be back in discussions for a potential 2024 matchup after recent breakdowns.

Plans for a 2024 showdown between the pair have long been on the radar, though with Ryan Gracia (24-1, 20 KOs) publicly claiming he no longer had interest in a fight with Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), the matchup appeared to be in tatters.

However, there has been a resurgence of hope for fans of the 25-year-old, as negotiations have apparently resumed, meaning ‘King Ry’ could potentially challenge for a world title this year.

The social media phenom lost his last outing via a seventh-round stoppage to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Despite the loss, Garcia has remained a huge name within the light and super lightweight divisions. His huge online presence, perhaps being the motivator behind Haney’s apparent interest in a fight with the Los Angeles-based boxer.

Garcia has had a rocky and well-documented relationship with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions. The retired champion recently showed his displeasure over his fighters' recent ties with fellow promoter and former opponent Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.

However, with the pair's relationship looking steady (for now) and the potential pay-per-view super fight seemingly back on track, De La Hoya, has had some kind words for his fighter's prospective opponent.

“I think Devin Haney is a special fighter,” De La Hoya voiced to BoxingScene.

“He knows how to figure out his opponents. Haney knows how to dissect you and be patient and use his reach and distance. He doesn't care what the crowd says, and that's crucial to any fighter. When you're in the ring and hearing boos from everybody, a lot of fighters panic and start changing up their gameplan and then they make mistakes. Shakur Stevenson doesn't care. It hurts you in other ways, like popularity with the fans, but all they care about is winning.”

It’s unclear what prompted Garcia’s change of tune, and reignited negotiations between the two parties, but as long ‘King Ry’ and De La Hoya can keep their cool it’s looking increasingly likely that Haney vs Garcia will be marked on the calendar later on this year.
