Devin Haney acknowledges Jorge Linares "will be the best fighter I have ever faced in my career"

Haney: “I’m going to show that I’m the king of the lightweight division”

Majestic World Boxing Council lightweight champion Devin Haney (25-0, 15KOs), will face the formidable three-times former world champion, Jorge Linares (47-5, 29KOs), on May 29 at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, presented by Matchroom that will be broadcast on DAZN.

In his most recent bout, Haney defeated former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-4, 18KOs) by unanimous decision in 12 rounds. Linares has not fought for more than a year, but after testing positive for coronavirus, he is already fully recovered and back training.

 

How pleased were you about this fight being made?

“I am very excited to be making my third world title defense against great fighter Jorge Linares, who will be the best fighter I have ever faced in my career. He is a three-division world champion who has fought at the championship level for the last 13 years. I grew up watching Linares, and the fact that this fight is happening in Las Vegas is unbelievable.”

 

What do you expect from your next opponent?

“Boxing fans around the world are eager to see me step up in the competition, which is great, and I know Linares is coming to fight. I’m ready to give the fans a spectacular performance. The best competition brings out the best in me. Against Linares, I’m going to show the world why I’m the king of the lightweight division.”
